DysCovery proudly highlights the impactful participation of our esteemed project partner, TUBAF (Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg), at the DESY Workshop held in Hamburg on February 7, 2023.

Daniel Vogt, representing TUBAF, took center stage with a compelling presentation titled “Critical Materials and Life Cycle Management: The example of Rare Earths – Curse or Blessing?”. The workshop focused on key aspects of rare earth elements (REEs) and their life cycle management, with a particular emphasis on their recovery from permanent magnets recycling.

TUBAF’s presentation delved into the complexities surrounding critical materials, offering a nuanced exploration of whether rare earths are a curse or a blessing in the context of sustainable life cycle management. A pivotal part of the discussion revolved around the recovery of REEs as metals or alloys from recycled permanent magnets, shedding light on innovative approaches within the DysCovery project.

As we applaud TUBAF’s active involvement and insightful presentation at the DESY Workshop, we anticipate that the knowledge shared will play a vital role in shaping the future of rare earths recycling within our collaborative endeavors.
